MPs of the main government affiliate Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) have been accused of provoking racism and religious sentiments instead of seeking justice for victims of the Easter Sunday attacks.

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Hector Appuhamy told the media that the government MPs behaved very badly at the House debate on the attacks.

Catholics being a minority, they cannot be allowed to do what they want was their message, said Appuhamy.

He was referring to the adjournment debate on the Easter Sunday attacks from 24 to 26 April.

Appuhamy could not attend, as he was out of the country at the time.

SLPP MPs said much worse had happened for the majority community, and the minority cannot be allowed to raise a voice, he said.

Also, they had no ethical right to criticise Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, he said, and urged the SLPP to have a clear separation line between religion and politics.
