Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa has urged war veterans to be partners to the humanitarian operation to build the country.
Had the political authority given proper leadership, the country saved by them from terrorists could have been a prosperous one by now, he noted.
He was speaking at the Samagi Jana Balawegaya's (SJB) sixth conference of war veterans in Monaragala.
Premadasa called upon them to mediate and end fraud, corruption, wastage and daylight swindling of national assets.
A SJB regime would bring in strong legislation to punish those responsible for such wrongdoings and steps taken recover the lost wealth, he added.
The opposition leader promised to introduce a programme for the families whose relatives went missing or were economically affected by the war.
