Senior Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Parinda Ranasinghe (Jnr) PC is to be appointed as the Acting Attorney General (AG).



He is slated to be sworn in today (01).

Parinda Ranasinghe, PC, was appointed by President Ranil Wickremesinghe on June 28 to fill the vacant position of the Attorney General after the retirement of Attorney General Sanjay Rajaratnam, PC.

This appointment has been made in accordance with the powers assigned by Articles 61E(b) and 41(c) of the Constitution. The appointment is effective from June 28 to July 11.

Ranasinghe joined the Attorney General’s Department as a State Counsel and was a senior officer who served in the Attorney General’s Department for 31 years holding various positions as Senior State Counsel, Deputy Solicitor General, Additional Solicitor General and Senior Additional Solicitor General.

Senior Additional Solicitor General Parinda Ranasinghe, PC, is the son of former Chief Justice Parinda Ranasinghe.
