The Sri Lanka Air Force plans to downsize its personnel by half to 18,000 by 2030.

Presently, it has 35,000 personnel.

Its commander Air Vice Marshal Udeni Rajapakse told the media at the Akuregoda headquarters that modern technology available in the commercial market would be used to maintain functions.

He said that for instance, security of an airbase presently manned by several personnel could be replaced with drones, UBI technology etc.
