Sri Lanka Freedom Party Senior Vice President Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva has sent a letter to Acting Secretary General secretary of the SLFP Dushmantha Mitrapala requesting to convene an emergency political committee meeting.

Among the matters mentioned by the minister, it was mentioned that due to a judicial censure, the chairman of the party is unable to act in that position, so there is an urgent need to make arrangements for the continuation of the party’s activities.

Due to that, he asked to call the meeting next Monday (08) at 10 am.

It has also been mentioned in the letter that the former president Maithripala Sirisena should call the other members of the politburo to that meeting, except the members of parliament, Dayasiri Jayasekara and Shan Wijelal de Silva.

In response to Nimal Siripala, Dushmantha in said in a letter that as he is bound by law to uphold the constitution of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, he cannot act contrary to it and accordingly cannot hold the meeting requested to be convened.

The Acting Secretary General’s letter to the Minister further states that since he has not yet received the injunction issued by the court, he has no legal authority to act at this time without knowing the facts contained in the order.

It has been mentioned in the letter that he is legally bound to act according to Section 16 of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party 2018 (Amended) Constitution.

Meanwhile, all the constituency organizers of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party have been called to the party headquarters in Colombo today (06).
