For the first time, big onions imported from China are now available at the wholesale market in Colombo Pettah.
According to importers and wholesalers, the price is set at around Rs. 320 per kg and the quality is good.
Imports from China began after both India and Pakistan banned the export of their big onion produce.
Meanwhile, the parliamentary ways and means committee has found that traders earned an unjustifiable profit of Rs. 80,000 million from imported big onions last year.
