Ranil Wickremesinghe loyalists in the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) are to leave the party en-masse to continue their politics with him in the future.
They include Kanchana Wijesekara, Prasanna Ranatunga, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Bandula Gunawardena and Pramitha Bandara Tennakoon.
Heated exchanges took place between them and the Rajapaksa supporters at the party’s executive committee meeting at ex-president Mahinda Rajapaksa’s official residence.
Aluthgamage is expected to lead the campaign in support of Wickremesinghe.
