Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa has demanded to know as to when state sector professions needing expertise and other public servants will receive a salary increase.
Despite numerous demands for pay hikes, only doctors and university teachers were favourably considered, he said.
The government that cannot raise the salaries of public servants by Rs. 20,000 permitted a very high salary increase for Central Bank employees, he pointed out.
He questioned the ethical right for the country’s top financial regulator to raise the salaries of its staff at a time when the country is trying to come out of bankruptcy.
