A suspect arrested in Chilaw during a drug raid has died in hospital.
Acting on a tip-off, police ambushed a three-wheeler and arrested its two occupants.
Eyewitnesses said the two had tried to escape from the police, and a scuffle ensured with one of them.
That suspect showed signs of illness, and died upon admission at Chilaw Hospital.
Police media spokesman Nihal Thalduwa said the man collapsed during the raid and was taken to hospital in unconscious condition.
Doctors found some heroin and a lighter from his possession.
The other man taken into custody had been nabbed in 2023 with six grams of Ice, said DIG Thalduwa.
