The state is amending laws to allow for India to acquire mineral sand deposits in Pulmoddai, alleges FSP’s Pubudu Jayagoda.
Speaking to the media yesterday (05), Jayagoda said a so-called national policy on minerals is being formulated to permit the owner to excavate for minerals in a plot of land.
The owner can even transfer the excavation license to a third party, said Jayagoda.
Pursuant to a gazette notification issued in January, Indian companies had acquired rights for mineral deposits in Mannar and Trincomalee, he charged.
The FSP education secretary urged the public and stakeholder institutions to rally against this sale of national assets to foreign countries.
