The president is conspiring to remain in the position while promising to abolish the executive presidency, SJB deputy national organizer S.M. Marikkar alleged.
A continuation of the SLPP government that lost its public mandate is also party of that conspiracy, he told the media.
The SJB’s stand is that the executive presidency should be abolished, but the need of the hour is a new parliament truly representative of the public opinion, he said.
Marikkar challenged president Ranil Wickremesinghe to prepare for a presidential election in the one-month period from 16 September, saying that he is without a party to contest and cannot get votes.
