India is to enter into a MoU for cooperation in the development, management and maintenance of airports in Sri Lanka.

Quoting foreign ministry sources, the ‘Anidda’ newspaper reported that New Delhi has drafted the agreement pursuant to president Ranil Wickremesinghe, during his July 2023 visit to the Indian capital, having stressed the importance of Indian investments in the island.

The MoU does not specify the Indian role in Sri Lankan airports, which a Foreign Ministry official found to be questionable.
