A civil society activist acquitted by courts has reportedly been summoned again to the TID.

Wimalasena Lavakumar claimed he was questioned for three hours about remembering the war-dead.

Upon being informed by Valachchena police on 26 January, he had gone to the TID office in Batticaloa on the following day.

He said he was asked about a remembrance event at the LTTE cemetery at Tharavai in Batticaloa.

Arrested in May 2021 for organizing a remembrance for the Mullivaikkal dead in a land owned by him, he was cleared and released a year later.

In October 2023, he came under threat by a group said to be linked to the government over his remarks about a state minister during a YouTube interview.
