and account for 56 pc of the registered voters, said SJB MP Eran Wickramaratne.

“Rulers and society have seen through a paternal eye, not maternal eye, when making policies and laws,” he has told the media.

Parliament has a mere five pc women’s representation, despite the global requirement that it should be 30 pc by 2030, said the MP.

As the first step, laws were introduced in 2018 to allot a 25 pc stake for women among local government candidates.

Wickramaratne also noted that women’s workforce is confined to 35 pc.
