United Republic Party leader Patali Champika Ranawaka has asked everybody to keep in mind the identity of the person who fathered politicians out of thugs.
“That so-called Appachchi created political thugs in this country and made thuggery part of politics”, he said at a public rally in Gampaha on 27 January.
Ranawaka said he paid last respects to Sanath Nishantha in the name of humanity only and not for his being a Rajapaksa henchman and a known thug in Puttalam.
He described Nishantha as a victim of a certain political process in the country.
Speaking further, he said political thuggery came to the fore to respond in kind to the gun politics of the JVP in the south and the LTTE in the north.
