Sagala Ratnayaka, national security advisor and chief of staff of the president, has been tasked with supervising and achieving targets of the International Monetary Fund’s reforms programme in Sri Lanka.

He was given the responsibility at a recent meeting between local and IMF officials.

The IMF delegation led by Peter Brewer has told finance state minister and Ratnayake that they were satisfied with the progress of the reforms programme.

Eliminating wastage, fraud and corruption are the key components of the programme.

Following a second review in March, the IMF is due to release the third tranche of the bailout loan.

The IMF delegation that toured Jaffna and other selected areas also thanked the president and the government for their transparency in their affairs.
