A remembrance has taken place in Batticaloa for a Tamil journalist who was killed just weeks after he posted pictures of five murdered youths 18 years ago.

At a memorial in front of Gandhi Park, a photograph of Subramaniam Sugirtharajan was garlanded by his colleagues, who demanded justice for all journalists slain in the past.

The chief correspondent in Trincomalee, he posted pictures of the five schoolboys in Sudaroli newspaper in Jaffna on 02 January 2006 to prove they were killed.

The government had claimed they had died when the bombs they had been transporting went off.

Just 22 days later, Sugirtharajan was gunned down in front of his home.
