Private bus owners are up in arms against a decision to fine drivers for traffic rule violations based on CCTV footage.
President of their association Gemunu Wijeratne said if this is to be implemented, it should go parallel with a mandatory priority bus lane.
According to him, the use of the bus lane by three-wheelers and other vehicles are disrupting passenger buses.
Acting IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon said from today, fine sheets will be sent to the homes of drivers who violate traffic rules.
He stressed that the driver, not the owner of the vehicle, will be fined.
The CCTV cameras installed in Colombo city are not being used properly, Tennakoon said.
