Billions of rupees ill-gotten from drugs are being spent on slinging mud on those working to eliminate the drugs menace, charged public security minister Tiran Alles.
Masterminds of crime use lawyers and various other persons to make these insults, he told a meeting at Nelum Pokuna Theatre for community police committees in Colombo South.
Alles said that he would not backtrack on drug and underworld elimination efforts, with a big transformation expected by June.
Even certain police officers could be involved in drug rackets, but the law would be enforced equally and strongly against all.
Also present on the occasion were national security advisor Sagala Ratnayake, ministry secretary Vianni Gunatilake and acting IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon.
