Finance state minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya has responded to allegations that Rs. 1.3 billion has been allotted to restructure Sri Lanka Telecom.

That money is set aside for the Treasury to acquire a 0.73 per cent stake of SLT presently owned by the National Savings Bank, he told the media in Ruwanwella.

 

 

Three other bidders

The state owns a 51 pc of SLT shares, while Maxxis of Malaysian businessman G. Ananda Krishnan is the owner of the balance 49 pc.

Jio owned by India’s Mukesh Ambani has expressed interest in writing to acquire a majority stake of the institution.

Bids have been submitted by two other interested parties as well.
