NPP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake has called for a new national awakening against the ring of thieves who keep on provoking racism and other differences for their survival.

“Sri Lanka should be taken to a new line of thinking, a new vision. Our country needs to be saved from the old, failed, tribal class of leaders,” he said.

Speaking at the party’s Kandy electoral conference on 13 January, he especially invited the citizens of Jaffna to be part of such a national awakening.

The opportunity for that comes at the upcoming presidential polls, that will be the beginning of the victory for the country, he said.

“First, we will ensure food for citizens, education for children and health for citizens,” he said, adding that what follows will be a political and economic transformation in the long-term.
