The National Medicines Regulatory Authority has assured that there would be no delay in medicines availability.

Its chairman Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama told the media yesterday (26) that speedy action would be taken for the clearance of shipments being kept at the Colombo port.

He went onto say that the registration of medicines with proven quality would continue until June 2024.

There had been a certain delay due to the piling up of

applications for registration, said Dr. Wijewickrama.

Committee for clearance of medicines

Health secretary Dr. Palitha Mahipala said a special committee headed by the director of medical supplies has been appointed to speed up the clearance of medicines.

This committee will become effective today, he added.
