Former health minister Keheliya Rambukwella said it was at his request that the CID recorded a statement from him at his home yesterday (26).

He said he clarified certain media reports that implicated him in the purchase of substandard human immunoglobulin vaccines.

Rambukwella gave a statement for three hours in the presence of his lawyers.

He said later that he volunteered the statement and that he furnished documentary and other evidence to support his claims.

Former health secretary Janaka Sri Chadragupta, ex-director of the Medical Supplies Division Dr. Kapital Wickramanayake and some others are in remand custody over the scam.
