Health secretary Dr. Palitha Mahipala has claimed an improvement in the procurement and distribution of medicines within the past two weeks.

In a statement to the media, he said more attention is being paid in that regard by appointing various committees and conducting regular reviews.

Hospitals in Matara, Kamburugama, Peradeniya, Kandy and Ragama have reported improvements in the availability of medicines, he said.

The health ministry has given permission to purchase those in short-supply from those areas.

Dengue on the decline

Dr. Mahipala also said that the incidence of dengue has decreased in the past week.

So far, 84,807 patients have been reported, with Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara and Kandy having the highest cases.

About four months of dengue eradication efforts have resulted in a decrease in the patients, he added.
