Renuka Perera, also administrative secretary of the SLPP, has resigned as chairman of state-owned Milco.
Perera told the media in Colombo today (18) that he sent his resignation letter to the finance secretary earlier in the day.
He was appointed to head Milco on 21 January 2022 and had one month in office remaining.
Perera says in the letter that it is unproductive for him to spend his time for the institution since it is to be privatized on a government policy.
Political analysts describe his resignation as the first salvo by the SLPP against the president’s privatization efforts.
