A hunt is on for a technology lecturer of Ruhuna University who has physically-abused a five-year-old girl, whom he had adopted.
Matara police acted upon a complaint that unusual cries of a child are being heard from the university’s official quarters at Kamburupitiya.
A team from the women and children’s bureau raided the place and took the girl into their custody.
She has reportedly been beaten with a belt and bruises were found on body and wounds on her nose, lips and upper palate.
The girl is warded at Matara general hospital for a medical examination.
