Nongovernmental organizations operating in Sri Lanka have been urged to fully support the state’s reconciliation mechanisms.

Director general of the NGOs National Secretariat Sanjeewa Wimalagunarathna made the call during coordinating meetings with NGOs in Jaffna, Mullaitivu and Kilinochchi.

He asked the NGOs to fully support the Office for Missing Persons, Reparation Office and the proposed Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

Work together with these mechanisms to provide relief to the people victimized by a 30-year war and also to cooperate in preventing the causes that led to the war, he said.

There was enthusiastic participation of NGOs at these meetings, where they submitted reports on the progress of their projects.

Guidelines were issued for the maximum utilization of these projects in cooperation with state agencies and for pooling resources.
