The Health Ministry’s medical supplies division is not receiving supplies following the arrest of four of its top officials.

It has now refused to accept nearly 100 items of medicines, vaccines and surgical and laboratory equipment.

The division’s director is among the four officials in remand custody over the substandard immunoglobulin scam.

Its deputy director is presently hospitalized, after having asked the health ministry secretary two weeks ago to make written instructions on how to receive supplies.

No response has been made as yet, said president of the health professionals association Ravi Kumudesh at a media briefing yesterday (26).

Two days earlier, minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana discussed the matter with his officials.

The ministry expects the acceptance of medical supplies to return to normal today with the director general of health services now tasked with the procurement and management process.

An acting director for the division is to be appointed as well.
