Determining the extent of the Kokkutuduvai mass grave in Mullaitivu has begun with the use of radar equipment as skeletal remains of 30 persons have been exhumed as of now.

At the conclusionof the day’s work on 23 November, JMO Kanagasabapathy Vasudeva said scannerswould continue to be used for a second day before arriving at a conclusion. 

A six-member teamfrom a private institution in Colombo is using two scanners for the task, hesaid. Forensic archaeologist Prof. Raj Somadeva and Mullautivu district court judge Dharmalingam Pradeepan observed the work underway.

Four more skeleta lremains were unearthed on the fifth day of excavations since work resumed following a more than two-month pause.

Water supply workers digging to lay pipelines stumbled upon the grave on 29 June.
