Two Sinhalese have been arrested for illegal fishing at a tank in Mullaitivu reserved for Tamil and Muslims.
Oddusudan police were alerted to the incident at Thannimurippu tank on 02 November, but most of the poachers had fled by the time they arrived.
Fifteen motorcycles belonging to the suspects have also been seized.
Poaching has been a contentious issue for about 10 years at this tank which provides a livelihood for around 200 families, said Murugan Murthi.
On 06 August too, 38 Sinhalese were arrested for fishing there.
Sivagnanam Sivabalakrishnan said the Mullaitivu district court has ruled that only Tamils and Muslims could fish at Thannimurippu tank.
