Tamil National Alliance's (TNA) M.A. Sumanthiran has said that court action would be sought once again to resolve an issue faced by dairy farmers in Batticaloa.

On 15 October, the lawyer-MP visited Tamils on an indefinite protest against an acquisition of grassland at Mailaththamadu by the Sinhalese for Chena cultivation.

They claim that they have thus lost around 2,500 acres of land on which their cattle had fed on.

Sumanthiran said a case filed in the court of appeal in 2020 concluded a year later with a promise by the Mahaweli Development Authority to evict the Sinhala farmers.

A petition will be filed to get that promise realized at least now, he said.

At a meeting to discuss this issue, president Ranil Wickremesinghe ordered the police and the Mahaweli Development Department to obtain a court order to evict the Sinhala farmers from the grasslands within a week.
