C.D. Wickremaratne is to get a three week extension to continue as the inspector general of police further, according to Presidential Secretariat sources.
With public security minister Tiran Alles out of the country, president Ranil Wickremesinghe has taken the decision which will be effective for the time being, since he too, is due to leave for China tomorrow (14).
Wickremaratne’s extended tenure for three months for the second time ended on 09 October.
He was originally due to retire on 25 March.
There has been talk in political circles if Wickremaratne will be given a third service extension or a new police chief appointed in his place.
