The policeman who had aided organized criminal Nadun Chinthaka alias ‘Harak Kata’ is said to have fled the country.
Constable Sandeepa Gunasekara has given two telephone calls to his home since the incident at the CID three days ago, where the criminal attempted to escape by trying to snatch an officer’s firearm.
On the same night, he had telephoned his home at Seruvila in Trincomalee and said he was safely in a foreign country.
On the following day too, he has taken a whatsapp call.
But, a senior police official said the call had originated locally.
Laying groundwork to kill suspect?
Meanwhile, lawyers are claiming an attempt to murder Chinthaka, who is being detained by the CID under the PTA.
Making submissions to the Colombo Fort magistrate’s court, they said the police were exaggerating the incident at the CID in an attempt to lay the groundwork to kill him.
The magistrate said orders will be issued for the suspect’s safety as appropriately.
