Remains believed to be of two more persons have been recovered during fresh excavations at a mass gravesite in Mullaitivu.

After finishing work for the day, JMO Kanagasabapathy Vasudeva told the media yesterday (07) they also found pieces of metal believed to be from ammunition at Kokkutuduvai.

Police and military men in civics had come to the guarded site and taken photographs in the evening on the first day of excavations, reports said.

That was despite an assurance by the police that no outsiders would be allowed entry.

On a court order, excavations restarted on 06 September and continued into the following day.

Water supply workers digging to lay pipelines stumbled on the human remains on 29 June.
