The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) made a written request to the chairman of the Election Commission to hold the local government polls as soon as possible, said its general secretary Sagara Kariyawasam.

He was responding to an article published by The Leader under the heading “No letter from SLPP to Election Commission over LG polls” on 27 August by quoting ‘Anidda’ newspaper.

The Election Commission has denied receiving a letter from the SLPP with a call to hold local government polls without any further delay.

Rejecting that claim, Kariyawasam said he sent the letter to the Election Commission chairman on 22 August, and made us a copy available, which is reproduced below.
