The FIFA ban on Sri Lanka could soon be lifted, said former president of Football Sri Lanka (FSL) Jaswar Umar.

After handing over nominations on 19 August to contest the FSL elections as a joint front, he also said all would unite and do their maximum to develop the local game.

According to reports, his candidature is supported by 58 out of the 67 football leagues in the country.

The Anuradhapura league too, has fielded a candidate for the FSL presidency.

Umar’s joint front noted that unity, together with holding elections as per the FIFA roadmap, would help get the ban lifted.

Appeals against the nominations will be accepted from 01 to 03 September.

The final list of nominations for the FSL presidency and 12 other office-bearers will go on display on 04 September.
