One of the seven acquitted convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case has asked that he be allowed to reunite with his mother back in Sri Lanka.

Writing to the Tamil Nadu chief minister, M.T. Shanthan sought his mediation to make representations on his behalf to the Indian central government.

Since his acquittal, Shanthan has been staying at a special camp.

He said he wanted to spent time and assist his elderly and ailing mother, whom he had not seen for the past 32 years.

Shanthan’s mother Maheswari Thillaiambalam too, has made a similar appeal to Indian premier Narendra Modi in a video in wide circulation.
