A closure of Udwalawa and Yala national parks in view of the prevailing drought is to be decided following a further review.
Wildlife ministry officials met yesterday (08) and discussed the matter.
Chandana Suriyabandara, the wildlife chief, said the two wildlife parks are normally closed in September every year.
However, with an early onset of the dry season this time, it has been recommended to close both promptly, he said.
A decision will be taken in two weeks’ time after a further review of the situation, he said.
Meanwhile, the Tourism Development Authority fears the closure of national parks would impact tourism.
Its chairman Priyantha Fernando expected a higher arrival of foreign tourists next month.
