Hydropower generation from Samanala Wewa reservoir will come to a complete standstill by 16 August with its waters released for agricultural purposes, said power minister Kanchana Wijesekara.
Electricity has to be bought to meet the demand in order to avoid three hours of power cuts in Matara, Galle, Ratnapura and Hambantota districts, he said in parliament today (08).
Purchases will have to be made from three power plants – A.S Embilipitiya, A.S Matara and B Power, he said.
Assures uninterrupted supply
Also taking to twitter, Wijesekara said the CEB will ensure an uninterrupted supply of power islandwide and has no plans for scheduled power-cuts.
The CEB will procure necessary supplementary power needed to maintain 24 hour uninterrupted supply of power, he added.
