State intelligence has warned the president about an organized plan to use disgruntled farmers against the government, ‘Lankadeepa’ reports.
In an intelligence report, it has been claimed the same persons involved in the uprising last year were behind the plot, according to highly-placed police sources.
The main aim of those behind it is to sabotage the economy, said the report, naming the culprits that include several media institutions whose reporting provokes the public.
An opposition party and a Tamil party MP are also active in this conspiracy, said the report, that intends to bring the people to the streets by warning them of a food shortage due to the government not supplying water to farmers.
Conspirators want to create an era of queues once again and thereby bring about a political change, added the report.
