The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has reacted to calls by certain politicians of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) for a general election by saying that it would fully back such a proposal.
The party will support if the SLPP tables a proposal to dissolve parliament, said SJB media spokesman S.M. Marikkar.
He noted similar sentiments being expressed in the political platform by the SLPP, especially Johnston Fernando, as well as members of the UNP and the NPP.
However, what Ranil Wickremesinghe wants is a presidential election, he pointed out.
People no longer want protests to vent out their anger, which they will express at an election, said Marikkar.
The president is on the verge of collapsing, he said, adding the SJB was always ready to appear on behalf of the people.
