Secretary to the president Saman Ekanayake is to issue guidelines for state officials with regard to their participation at meetings of the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE), Committee on Public Finance (COPF) and other parliamentary committees.

Ekanayake has taken the decision in view of the complaints he has received from chairmen of these committees that officials come unprepared, and the explanations given by the officials.

Ministry secretaries have told him that officials are worried over their being sternly questioned at committee meetings, which are publicized through the media.

In consideration of both sides of the matter, Ekanayake said a set of guidelines will be planned and sent to ministry secretaries for adherence.
