The government is yet to consider a draft amendment that seeks a reconvening of the dissolved local government bodies, said state minister of local govt. Janaka Wakkumbura.

It has been presented with approval from the SLPP, its initiator Jayantha Ketagoda has told ‘Anidda’ newspaper, adding that the party assisted him to present it as a private member’s motion.

He has proposed amendments to the acts governing municipal and urban councils and Pradeshiya Sabhas to empower the subject minister to reconvene the dissolved LG bodies for a specific period.

It was gazetted on June 26.

Meanwhile, ‘Truth First’ of Leader TV revealed that the proposal was a plan by SLPP national organizer Basil Rajapaksa to keep grassroots leaders with the party.
