The National People's Power (NPP) has urged the people to take to the streets and hold hartals to secure an election.

It is not possible to obtain an election from the present government without such efforts, the party’s national organizer K.D. Lal Kantha said.

The country cannot have a new beginning as its rulers are not holding elections, he told a party event in Anuradhapura.

“Those who ruled the country for 75 years and whose journey is now ending, are denying an election for the people’s victory. A major struggle has to be waged to secure an election by taking to the streets, closing shops and conducting hartals. Let’s prepare for several hartals,” he said.

The Wickremesinghe-Rajapaksa regime will definitely have to pay after blocking the opportunity to lay the foundation for a new journey, said Lal Kantha.
