The main opposition party, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB ), has decided to oppose the government’s agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for an extended fund facility.
Meeting with opposition leader Sajith Premadasa at the chair, the party’s parliamentary group decided the government had acted arbitrarily and agreed to the IMF’s conditions.
Any deals with the IMF should have been made with transparency and in a manner to be advantageous to Sri Lanka, but neither had happened, the SJB MPs noted.
