A Health Ministry official is delaying 400 internship appointments in order to get his daughter included in the list, government doctors allege.

GMOA spokesman Dr. Chamil Wijesinghe said the identity of this official would be made public by Monday.

According to him, the official’s daughter is a military officer presently studying at the medical faculty of the Kotelawala Defence University.

Her batch will take several months to complete the degree course, until such time the ministry official is Putting off the internship appointments, Dr. Wijesinghe charged.

A batch of 400 presently in training will complete their internships by June 27.

The Health Ministry is yet to instruct the Sri Lanka Medical Council to formulate arrangements for the next batch of interns, he said, adding that union action would be taken if the matter is not resolved.
