China has thanked Sri Lanka for having deported a Chinese fugitive wanted over a narcotic crime.
A team of Sri Lankan officials that escorted Li Pan to China were warmly received in that country and were invited for a luncheon by the Chinese defence minister.
China’s government has also thanked the Sri Lankan president and the public security minister for handing the suspect over for legal action.
Escorted by two STF inspectors, a narcotics inspector, an immigration official and a Chinese Embassy official, he was taken by a SriLankan airlines flight to China on June 08.
The team was able to contain him despite his unruly behaviour inside the plane.
Meanwhile, public security minister Tiran Alles has ordered the CID to investigate the persons who brought him to Sri Lanka and the associates of a state minister who had extorted money with a promise of getting him released.
