Police say more than 2,500 persons remain behind bars under the still effective PTA.
According to director of the TID, SSP Prasanna de Alwis, a total of 2,793 persons had been arrested under the PTA between 2010 and 2022.
Of them, 2,473 are being kept detained, while 184 have been indicted.
Forty four are released on bail after being indicted while 31 acquitted by courts.
It is believed a vast majority of these detainees are Muslims and Tamils accused over the Easter Sunday terror attacks and over links with the LTTE.
The details were obtained under the right to information act by Watchdog Team activist Yudhanjaya Wijeratne from the TID.
De Alwis has confirmed the inmates are being kept at seven locations.
