Chief of defence staff (CDS) Gen. Shavendra Silva has sent a letter of demand (LoD) to MP Wimal Weerawansa over allegations of complicity in an alleged conspiracy to overthrow the government.

Weerawansa leveled the allegations against Silva in a speech at the launch of his book ‘Nine: The Hidden Story’ on April 25 and on several other occasions thereafter.

The CDS claimed in his LoD, “...the statements made by the MP on him and the Sri Lanka Army are absolutely false and baseless.”

“It is said that they have been fabricated and published with the mala fide and ulterior motive to defame General Shavendra Silva and tarnish his hard-earned good name and reputation, both locally and overseas, over his unblemished service to the nation for nearly 40 years.”

“Also, the MP has purely targeted his political acquisitions through such indecent acts,” the LoD added.

Wimal discusses book with journalists

Meanwhile, NFF leader Wimal invited senior journalists from the electronic and print media last Tuesday for a discussion on ‘Nine: The Hidden Story’.

Welcoming them, the MP hoped their meeting would further expand the ongoing dialogue in society with regard to the book.

Among those present were Prof. Tudor Weerasinghe and NFF MPs Jayantha Samaraweera, Mohamed Muzammil, Gamini Waleboda and Uddika Premaratne.
