Tamil political leaders have unanimously rejected a government proposal to build a common memorial for all the war dead.

It will be a grave injustice to the Tamil people to equally treat those who waged the war and those who were affected by the war, they said.

ITAK’s R. Sampanthan, TNPF’s Gajendra Kumar Ponnambalam, TELO’s Selvam Addaikkalanathan, PLOTE’s Dharmalingam Siddarthan and EPRLF’s Suresh Premachandran have issued a statement in this regard.

The cabinet has approved a proposal by president Ranil Wickremesinghe to build a memorial in Colombo as a symbol of reconciliation for the civilians, members of the armed forces and the police and members of the LTTE, who died in the war.
